uk1The University of Bedfordshire’s highly successful start-up programme, B-innovative, has recently completed the delivery of its final cohort having supported over 200 would-be entrepreneurs in the UK realise their business ideas.  The programme is currently being evaluated to ascertain its effectiveness ahead of its European funding drawing to a close in Autumn 2014.  The University of Bedfordshire is keen to continue to support entrepreneurial activity beyond the end of the programme so part of this evaluation will involve looking at how best to support individuals into the future based on what was learnt from programmes such as B-innovative.

uk2Delegates on the University of Bedfordshire's business start-up programme, B-Innovative, recently had the opportunity to pitch to a panel of business judges in May.  The panel chose finalists from applicants to the University's B-Innovative programme which provides would be entrepreneurs with the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills through interactive sessions. The programme offered them an opportunity to develop their business ideas, gain awareness of costing and pricing, understand their marketplace and competitors, identify company structures and Intellectual Property (IP) and understand how to raise investment.

Daniel Nicholls, Project Manager for B-innovative, said “this fifth and final cohort has proved our best yet in terms of the quality and standard of delegate’s business ideas and also the support awarded in aiding delegates realising their business dreams.”

This latest version of the programme was won by University of Bedfordshire trainee teacher, Wayne Cartmel, whose idea of a teacher recruitment platform greatly impressed the panel of judges through both the professional presentation conveyed and the clear vision of where the business was headed.  Wayne said “I want to thank the B-innovative project team for the support and guidance through the B-innovative programme.  I have found the course incredibly useful and have learnt so much in such a short space of time.  As you can imagine I'm thrilled to have won the prize fund and am looking forward to meeting up with the business advisor to discuss the next steps in making my business dream a reality.”
